ABSTRACT.
In this work, new epoxy resin concrete (NERC) is proposed as the new energy-saving and environmentally-friendly building material. Recent research progress shows that it has significant advantages as compared to reinforced concrete. The plasticity along with the compressive and tensile strengths of NERC is high, making it promising for a wide range of engineering applications. This work introduces the trends in the research and use of NERC in China and abroad. The mechanical model and performance analysis of the NERC have been reported in this work. Through an experimental study on eleven different testing groups, the experimental data, observed phenomena, and fracture morphology were studied. The optimal composition and proportion of components for an optimized NERC were determined through exhaustive studies. The compressive and tensile strengths obtained by the test studies were compared with those of hydrophilic ERC and the ordinary C30 concrete. It was observed that the strengths for NERC increased significantly, and a breakthrough was achieved in terms of tensile strength which usually prevents applicability of NERC. This study demonstrates the significant advantages of NERC and is an essential guide for its use as a structural material in civil engineering.
