ABSTRACT. 
Industries face a major problem of storing the enormous amount of data produced in their day to day business. This paper focuses on solving this problem effectively by a novel method of storing the data in cloud and by associating it with the retention policy. The policies associated with each file are stored in the Policy repository. Policy Enforcement Agent initiates the enforcement of the policy on the stored file with the help of Policy Enforcement Engine. The Policy Management Module deals with the creation, modifications, deletion and enforcement of policy pertaining to each file or group. A proper data retention policy has to be managed for each data items stored. A Hadoop frame work running over the private cloud is used for checking the retention period of data corresponding to each file making the computation effective.
