ABSTRACT.
Presence of shadow in Vehicle License Plate Recognition (VLPR) creates partial occlusion and poses difficulty in real scene traffic monitoring and results in misclassification or false identification or wrong recognition of registration number. Shadow removal is a topic of research in image processing domain. This paper proposes a scheme for suppressing the partial occlusion created by shadow in License Plate (LP). The proposed “Suppression of Partial Occlusion due to Shadow (SPOS)” scheme uses Chromaticity and Cepstrum based model. The performance of the proposed SPOS scheme has been validated using MIT License Plate data set and from the experimentation results it is found that the proposed method gives better results in terms of recognition accuracy.
